Family therapy is based on the idea that the family is a unique social system with its own structure and communication patterns. These patterns are determined by various factors, including the values and beliefs of the parents, the personalities of all family members, and influences from other relatives, such as grandparents, uncles, and aunts. As a result of these variables, each family develops a unique personality that is powerful and affects all its members.
In therapy sessions, the family’s strengths are used to help everyone deal with their problems. All family members take responsibility for the problems, and some are encouraged to change certain behaviors.
Family therapy is a dynamic type of therapy where there is active participation from all family members. The number of sessions varies depending on the severity of the problems and the commitment of each family member to therapy. The duration of sessions typically ranges from 1 hour to 1.5 hours, depending on the size of the family and the goals to be achieved. People in family therapy learn more about themselves and how their families function. It allows family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions in a safe way, where each person is willing to understand the other’s perspective and experience. Through the respect of individual needs, family terapy promotes positive changes in relationships and lives.
Please note that the family therapy sessions I offer excludes families with children under 12 years old.
